Recommendations

The following are the Placement Levels:

Placement Level 5
Answering correctly at least 18 questions or more including at least 4 correct answers in Part IV and at least 1 correct answer in Part V.
Placement Level 4
Answering correctly at least 17 questions or more including at least 4 correct answers in Part IV.
Placement Level 3
Answering correctly at least 13 questions or more including at least 4 correct answers in Part III.
Placement Level 2
Answering correctly at least 9 questions or more including at least 5 correct answers in Part II.
Placement Level 1
Answering correctly at least 4 questions or more including at least 4 correct answers in Part I.

The following are the corresponding Mathematics Placement Recommendations:

Comments:

  1. Entering freshmen need an ACT Math score of at least 27 to enroll in MATH 1910. However, students scoring at level 4 or 5 on the Math Placement exam are allowed to enroll in MATH 1910. Please call the Math Department at (931) 372-3441 to arrange a date and time to officially take the Math Placement Exam. It is very similar to the practice version on this website.

  2. Students who complete MATH 1730 or, MATH 1710 and 1720, each with "C" or better, are eligible to register for MATH 1910.

  3. Entering freshmen need an ACT Math score of at least 25 to enroll in MATH 1830. However, students scoring at level 3 or higher on the Math Placement exam are allowed to enroll in MATH 1830. Please call the Math Department at (931) 372-3441 to arrange a date and time to officially take the Math Placement Exam. It is very similar to the practice version on this website.

  4. Students in levels 2, 3, 4, and 5 planning to take pre-calculus need to decide whether they want to take MATH 1730 (5 credits) orMATH 1710 (3 credits) followed by MATH 1720 (3 credits). MATH 1710 and 1720 can be taken concurrently.
